The Allentown Art Museum offers year-round internships for both college and graduate students as well as recent graduates who wish to broaden their education and professional experience with the only art museum in the Lehigh Valley.

Internships give students a unique opportunity to engage with the special nature of the Museum as an arts and culture institution. While here, interns have the opportunity to enact change that makes a community-wide impact and learn from professionals in this competitive field.

Interns will gain valuable hands-on experience in one of the Museum’s many departments:

  • Curatorial: Art-historical research and art acquisition
  • Education: Community outreach, public programming, and art education
  • Collection Management: Conservation, art handling, and collections database management
  • Development: Fundraising, grant writing, membership management, and visitor services
  • Marketing: Communication strategy and implementation, public relations, and social media
  • Executive Administration: Strategic planning, donor relations, and nonprofit management

Interns will be chosen based upon positions available, your area of interest, and your qualifications.

Internship schedules are flexible and will be determined by the intern and their supervisor. Unless otherwise specified, internships are unpaid, although some benefits are available, such as discounts at the Museum Cafe and Store, free Museum admission, and invitations to exhibition previews and public programs.

Students who wish to obtain academic credit for their internship must make arrangements with their college or university individually.
